So you’re thinking about breastfeeding, everybody tells you it’s best for both you and your baby, but why? What is so good about breastfeeding?
Firstly, your breast milk is designed perfectly by mother nature to meet your babies needs, and your body will respond to signals during every single feed to alter the milk you produce, making sure your baby is receiving every single piece of nutrients required to help them thrive.
Benefits for baby:
Breastfeeding reduces your babies risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), childhood leukaemia, type 2 diabetes, obestity and cardiovascular disease in adulthood. It also reduces risk of infections, diarrhoea and vomiting, which means you can spend more time enjoying your babies precious early days at home, with less time spent in hospital waiting rooms!
Benefits for you:
Breastfeeding lowers your risk of breast and ovarian cancers, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and obesity.
(Oh, and here’s a little secret – it can it burn up to around 500 calories a day & helps contract your uterus back much quicker, so you can say bye-bye to any extra weight you gained in pregnancy!)
